We're used to seeing roads rendered impassable by mudslides or sinkholes, but this is the first time your humble blogger has seen
mudslides buckle the road like an earthquake:
A mudslide triggered by storms that rocked the Bay Area this week caused some extreme warping and buckling to a road in Novato, officials said.
The slip caused "significant erosion" on the hillside and uncovered a PG&E gas line and possibly created pressure on the North Marin Water District aqueduct that runs from Sonoma County to Marin, the county said in a statement Thursday.
Over the past decade we've learned that we are far from safe from Mother Nature, which is full of dangerous surprises.
