(Reprised):
In the late 1990's my former employer could draw on a talent pool of more than 200 financial professionals to put together a decent holiday choir. The grainy video (VHS tape) and monaural audio won't attract any hits today, but Christmas is a time of nostalgic sentimentality...
Note: here are parts Two, and Three.
Part Four is below:
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow...
But the fates do not allow. As this year has reminded us, Our time together is fleeting, gone in the wink of an eye. Like the ghostly watchers in Grover's Corners, we have an eternity to mull the regrets of moments unappreciated until too late.

Songs of the Season - Part 1
(Reprised from a 2009 post - the way we were in 1999):
In the late 1990's my employer had enough of a talent pool to put together a decent holiday choir (videos uploaded from VHS tape).
The San Francisco office once numbered over 200 strong. After retirements, layoffs, and transfers, it numbered fewer than 20 this year, when it finally closed.

Songs of the Season - Part 3
(Reprised from a 2009 post - the way we were in 1999):
An unserious musical history of the Twelve Days of Christmas. I like the Hawaiian lyrics myself ("a mynah bird in one papaya tree").

Songs of the Season - Part 4
(Reprised from a 2009 post - the way we were in 1999):
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now.
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow...
But the fates do not allow. Our time together is too fleeting, gone in the wink of an eye. Like the ghostly watchers in Grover's Corners, we have an eternity to mull the regrets of moments unappreciated until too late.
On this Christmas and in the New Year, resolve not to let that happen.

You've Got Inertia
Like millions of others, I signed up for an account with America Online in the 1990's. Unlike millions of others, I not only still have it but also use AOL as my primary personal email account.
AOL is low-status, to be sure; johndoe@aol.com is distinctly déclassé compared to johndoe@prestigious-employer.com, johndoe@johndoe.com, or even johndoe@cable-provider.net, but I like the fact that most marketing traffic is shunted to the AOL inbox. It's easier to delete them if they're in a specific place.
Apparently, I'm not alone:

Apparently, I'm not alone:
People still use AOL’s mail today — tens of millions, a spokesperson said — likely out of habit and the convenience of not having to change addresses.Besides, the sounds that once were irritating now trigger nostalgia:
